The clay soil at Valhowlla on SW Market is legitimately problematic. After one visit, my dog's white paws came back yellow and it took three baths to get the stuff out. It's not just dirty—this heavy clay-like ground embeds itself deep in fur, especially between the toes, and the rain we get constantly just makes it worse. If you've got a light-colored dog, be prepared for permanent staining. The park also opened without basic infrastructure like trash bins, and the water spigots don't work, so bring your own water if the dog gets thirsty. On top of that, supervision has been inconsistent. I've seen owners barely paying attention while their dogs mob others, which defeats the purpose of having a designated space.

That said, there's real potential here that's being wasted. The location is solid and you're not walking 20-30 minutes to reach it like the other nearby options. It's decently sized and the fencing is solid with separate areas. The problem is purely execution. A thick layer of mulch or similar surface material would fix most of these issues and actually make it usable year-round without destroying your dog's coat. For now, if you live in the neighborhood and need the proximity, go in with low expectations. Check the water situation before heading over and plan on a serious cleaning session afterward. If you can hit one of the better-maintained parks further out, it's probably worth the trip.
