Visiting With Your Dog
Grass Lake Nature Park is one of my favorite spots to take my pup for a morning adventure, and I've learned a few things that make the experience even better. When you arrive, expect a peaceful natural setting with well-maintained trails that wind through wetland areas and native plant communities. The park's off-leash areas give your dog plenty of freedom to explore, though you'll want to keep a close eye on them, especially near the water. The lakeside setting is beautiful, but it does mean muddy paws are practically guaranteed—something to keep in mind before heading to your car.
Parking is convenient with a small lot right at the entrance on Kaiser Road NW. I'd recommend arriving early, especially on weekends, as spots fill up quickly. The best times to visit are early morning or late afternoon when it's cooler and less crowded. Bring plenty of water for both you and your dog, since the trails can be longer than you'd expect, and pack waste bags—keeping the park clean is essential for everyone's enjoyment.
The trails themselves are accessible and shaded in many sections, which is perfect during warmer months. My dog loves splashing in the shallow areas, though I always rinse her off afterward. The birdwatching here is excellent too, so if you enjoy nature photography or just want a peaceful walk, this spot delivers.
What makes Grass Lake particularly convenient is its proximity to other stops. After a good hike, I'll often grab a coffee at Hobbit House of Coffee to refuel while my dog relaxes. If you're looking for an extended outing, Puget City Brewing isn't far away either—many people tie their dogs outside while enjoying a drink. It all comes together perfectly for a full afternoon in the area. Just plan ahead, bring the essentials, and you'll have a fantastic day outdoors.
