Visiting With Your Dog

When you arrive at the Esplanade with your pup, you're in for a real treat. The off-leash area stretches along the waterfront with gorgeous views of the mountains and water, giving your dog plenty of space to burn off energy while you can actually relax and enjoy the North Shore scenery. It's one of those rare spots where everyone seems happy—your dog running freely, and you getting some peace and quiet.

Parking is pretty convenient; you'll find street parking along Esplanade West, though it can fill up during peak weekend hours. I'd recommend heading out on weekday mornings or early afternoons if you want to avoid the crowds and have more space for your pup to roam. The area is well-maintained, and the grass is usually in good condition, though it can get muddy after rain, so bring a towel for the car ride home.

Pack water and a collapsible bowl—there aren't many facilities nearby, and your dog will appreciate a drink after running around. I also bring a waste bag dispenser and pick up after my dog religiously; everyone here seems to respect the space that way. The waterfront location means it can get breezy, so dress accordingly for yourself.

One of my favorite routines is combining a visit here with a stop at one of the nearby breweries. Storm Brewing is just a short walk away, and many patios allow well-behaved pups to hang out while you grab a beer and chat with other locals. It's a perfect way to round out a morning or afternoon with your dog.

The 4.2-star rating speaks for itself—this is genuinely a beloved spot for North Shore dog owners. Just remember to keep an eye on your pup and make sure they're playing nicely with others. Come prepared, arrive with realistic expectations about the weather, and you'll have a fantastic outing.
